Schedule

*Please keep an eye on the weather. Below is the schedule should it not rain. If it rains, this schedule WILL CHANGE. If it is just a quick shower, we will just delay the outside WODs until the rain has passed, pushing back start and finish times. (I will update the schedule as this happens.) If it looks like it will rain significantly throughout the day, we will move all WODs and vendors inside, and run a compressed schedule. WODs will be shortened, and heats will be smaller to adjust for the smaller space. Please check the Talon Throwdown Series Facebook page for updates.

General Schedule at a Glance
Check in from 7:00-7:45am
Athlete & Judges Briefing at 8am
First heat will start at 8:30am
Lunch 12pm-1pm
Athlete & Judges Briefing at 1:00pm
Awards Presentation at 5:30pm

Please keep in mind that we do run on time at Talon events (weather permitting). Please be sure to be at your WOD a few minutes before to ensure we continue to run on time, and you don’t miss your heat. This is a SOLD OUT event, so we CANNOT work you into another heat should you miss, you will unfortunately receive a DNF for any missed event.

Rip Through it! – presented by RipFix
12 minute AMRAP
60 Calorie Airbike
40 Alternating DB Snatch (50/35/20)
20 Ring Muscle Up (Scaled: 20 Pullups)

Reps may be divided among teammates in any fashion. Same gender divisions will have one DB while mixed divisions will have two DB’s (one male and one female). Boxes will be utilized for athletes needing assistance in reaching the rings or a pull up bar.

Scoring: 12 minute AMRAP. The total reps will be ranked against all other teams in the division. This final ranking will count as one quarter of the overall scoring for the Tango event. *The time it takes to complete the 60 calories on the Airbike by itself may be used as a tie-breaker in podium decision or WOD winner prize only (ties will be permitted on the WOD itself).

Air Bike: Pedal like hell and pray you can snatch a DB when you step off.

Alternating Dumbbell Snatch: The dumbbell snatch starts with the dumbbell on the ground and finishes with the dumbbell directly overhead. At the bottom of the movement, BOTH heads of the dumbbell must touch the ground. The dumbbell must be lifted overhead in one motion. Touch-and-go is permitted but bouncing the dumbbell is not allowed. Athletes must alternate arms after each repetition and may not alternate until a successful rep is achieved. The non-lifting hand and arm may not be in contact with the body during the repetition. At the top, the arms, hips, and knees must be fully locked out with the dumbbell clearly over the middle of the athlete’s body when viewed from profile. Once the athlete has reached lockout, the repetition will count. The athlete may choose to do a split style snatch. However, both feet must return and be in line under the athlete’s body while the dumbbell is locked out overhead for the repetition to count. Because these are ALTERNATING between right and left, and there are two people, each time an athlete goes to complete reps, he/she must complete an EVEN number of snatches, completing at least one good rep on the right arm, and one good rep on the left arm. He/she may choose to do more than two reps, but must complete an even number of snatches before the partner can contribute.

Ring Muscle Up: In the muscle-up, the athlete must begin with or pass through a hang below the rings, with the arms fully extended (with or without a false grip) and the feet off the ground. The heels may not rise above the height of the rings during the kip. The elbows must be fully locked out while in the support position above the rings. Kipping the muscle-up is acceptable, but swings or rolls to support are not permitted. If consecutive kipping muscle-ups are performed, a change of direction below the rings is required. All rings will be set to a standard height which to allow accommodate taller athletes. Athletes needing assistance to reach the rings may use a box as a step. Athletes cannot assist one another to the rings.

Pull Up: This is a standard chin-over-bar pull-up. Dead hang, kipping or butterfly pull-ups are allowed as long as all the requirements are met. The arms must be fully extended at the bottom, with the feet off the ground. Overhand, underhand or mixed grip are all permitted. At the top of the movement, the chin must break the horizontal plane of the bar. Athletes may wear hand protection (gymnastics-style grips, gloves, etc.), but they may not tape the bar. Scaled only: 1″ bands will be available for any scaled team who cannot perform unassisted pull ups. Any team completing the WOD using a band will be ranked below any team completing the WOD as prescribed who completes at least one pull up as prescribed.

Nutrishop’s Two minute Tangos
DB Front Squat (50/35/20)
Bearhug Sandbag Carry (200/150/100)
GHD Situp
Single Arm DB Hang Clean to Overhead (50/35/20)
Ski Erg for Calories

Each team will have two minutes to perform as many reps as possible at each station. There will be a 1 minute rest between stations. Athletes may switch as needed during the two minute tango.

Scoring: Each team will be ranked on each individual station. The rankings for each of the 5 stations will be totaled, and the teams will be ranked off of that total for a final ranking on the “Two Minute Tangos”. The final ranking for this WOD will count as one quarter of the overall scoring for the Tango event. *The total number of GHD situps may be used as a tie-breaker in podium decision or WOD winner prize only (ties will be permitted on the WOD itself).

DB Front Squats: The rep begins at the top with knees and hips extended and a dumbbell on each shoulder. One head of the DB must be in contact with the shoulder. A muscle clean into a squat is allowed for the first rep of each set provided all other standards of the squat are met. The dumbbells must be held on the shoulder but there is no requirement to maintain a grip on the dumbbell the entire time. At the bottom of the squat, the hip crease must pass below the knees. At the top, the hip and knees must be fully extended. For the safety of all athletes, judges, and spectators, NO DROPPING OF THE DB’s! Any dropped DB’s will result in an immediate 5 burpee penalty for both athletes. No reps can be completed until the burpee penalty is complete.

Bearhug Sandbag Carry: Each same gender divisions will have one sandbag, while mixed gender divisions will have two sandbags at the designated weights. Only one athlete may be in contact with sandbags at any time. Athletes may not help each other pick up the sandbag nor assist in the carrying of the sandbag. The sandbag must be carried in a bearhug position, centered in front of the body, with arms wrapped around the sandbag, with palms facing your body. Hands may not be underneath the sandbag facing up, nor can the sandbag sit in the hands at the end of straight arms. This is a BEAR HUG carry. Interlocking fingers and holding onto your own forearms is permitted. The sandbag must be carried approximately 45 ft and placed on the opposing 4X6 mat to earn one rep. The return trip to the starting mat will also earn one rep for the team, making each down and back trip worth two reps. VERY IMPORTANT: All sandbags must be returned back to the start position at the end of the two minute tango, ready for the next team to begin. In the event that a sandbag is left at any other place other than the start, the team will receive a score of ZERO reps for the Bearhug Sandbag Carry portion of the Two Minute Tango event. This is very important for the flow of the event, since we only have one minute between stations, so please be sure to plan your trips accordingly.

Rx Men: 200#
Rx Women, Scaled Men: 150#
Scaled Women: 100#
*These are the Rogue Strongman Sandbags you will be using.

GHD Situps: While seated on the GHD machine, athlete must extend backwards and touch a target on the floor behind him or her. Athlete must then sit up, without using the hands to pull him or herself up, and then touch the foot bumper in front of him or her to complete the rep. Athletes are responsible for adjusting their own GHD machine during the minute break between stations.

DB Single Arm Hang Clean to Overhead: After the dumbbell is lifted off the floor, the athlete must pause with the dumbbell at the hang position, either at his or her side or between the legs. From there, the athlete may perform a muscle clean, power clean, squat clean or split clean, so long as the dumbbell comes up and makes contact with the shoulder before being lifted overhead. Once at the shoulder, the athlete may get the dumbbell overhead any way he or she chooses. Shoulder press, push press, push jerk and split jerk are all permitted. The non-working hand may not come into contact with the body or the dumbbell while the dumbbell is being lifted. Athletes may use two hands while lowering the dumbbell between reps, but may only switch hands once the DB is lower than top of the head. At the top, the arm, hips and knees must be fully locked out with the dumbbell clearly over the middle of the athlete’s body when viewed from profile. Once the athlete has reached lockout, the repetition will count. If a split jerk is performed, both feet must return and be in line under the athlete’s body while the dumbbell is locked out overhead.

Ski Erg: For max calories at the end of 2 minutes. Rollover calories after the 2 minutes will not be counted. Athletes may switch as needed.

Momentum Gear’s Double Cleaning
12 minute AMRAP
1500m Row
12 Power Cleans (Rx: 165/115) (Sc: 125/75)
100 Double Unders
10 Power Cleans (Rx: 195/135) (Sc: 145/85)
75 Double Unders
8 Power Cleans (Rx: 225/155) (Sc: 165/95)
50 Double Unders
AMRAP Power Cleans (Rx: 245/175) (Sc: 185/105)

Reps may be divided among teammates in any fashion. All reps after the rower must be completed on the designated 4×6 mat. Same gender divisions will have one bar while mixed divisions will have two bars (one male and one female). Only team members may load, unload, and move bars. Spectators and judges may not assist in management of equipment (other than managing possible safety concerns). Clamps must be used for reps to count. Rx division must perform double unders while scaled divisions may perform single unders. Any scaled team choosing to perform single unders will be ranked below any team choosing to perform double unders AND completes the first 100 double unders. Any scaled team choosing to perform double unders must get through the first 100 double unders for their score to be ranked above those choosing to perform single unders, so choose wisely! Decision must be made as a team….so both athletes must perform the same movement.

Scoring: For total reps completed in 12 minutes. The total reps will be ranked against all other teams in the division. This final ranking will count as one quarter of the overall scoring for the Tango event. *The first 1500m row by itself may be used as a tie-breaker in podium decision or WOD winner prize only (ties will be permitted on the WOD itself).

Row: Any damper setting is allowed. Athletes may be strapped into the rower before the workout begins, but may not touch the handle until “GO” is called.

Double Unders: The jump rope must pass under the athletes feet twice before the athlete’s feet return to the ground. All divisions will complete DU’s since it is a max effort format, so if you don’t have them yet, perhaps you may just get your first at the event! The working athlete must be on the black mat for reps to count.

Power Clean: The barbell must come from the ground, to the shoulders in one motion, with the hips and knees fully extended and the elbows in front of the bar at the end of the lift. Power cleans are the only form of clean accepted, so hip crease may not go below the knee during the catch portion of the lift. Split cleans and full squat cleans are not permitted, nor is a hang clean. A pause at the hang position is also not acceptable. The rep is complete when the athlete reaches full hip and knee extension, with elbows in front of the bar.

Barbell Voodoo’s 5RM Back Squat (from the rack)

Each team will start the WOD with a men’s 45# empty bar in the rack. (ALL divisions will use 45# bars.) At the call of 3-2-1-GO, the clock will start and the team will have 12 minutes to each establish a 5RM back squat for a combined total.

Back Squat from Rack Standard:  The bar will be taken from the rack for this event and clamps must be used. The working athlete is the only athlete that may touch the barbell during the athlete’s attempt. During the attempt, the barbell must be held behind the neck on the athlete’s shoulders or back. At the bottom, the crease of the hips must pass below the height of the knee. At the top, the knees and hips must be fully extended with the barbell in control. Athletes may rest as needed anywhere during the movement, any time during the 5RM, as long as the barbell remains on the back and untouched by any other person. The athlete must complete all 5 reps within the 12 minute time cap, reaching full extension on the last rep within the time period. If the barbell is dropped, re-racked, or touched by anyone other than the working athlete, the attempt is over. If an athlete is no-repped during the 5 rep attempt, he/she may continue the attempt to complete 5 good reps while the bar is on the back, but will not receive credit for the insufficient rep. All athletes participating in this WOD should know how to bail properly by pushing the bar off their backs, therefore, the space behind the athlete should be clear of people and equipment. No spotters may be used for the safety of all involved. Please be smart, and remember that we do all need to be able to go to work on Monday. No lifting straps may be used.

Each athlete must inform the judge of the weight they think is on the bar before each lift so the judge can confirm. Athletes may alternate attempts between lifts, weights, and athletes as they see fit.

Scoring: Final score will be total weight lifted by adding the heaviest weight lifted for each team member together. The total weight lifted will be ranked against all other teams in the division. This final ranking will count as one quarter of the overall scoring for the Tango event.
